BVTF Fishing Report w/e 23rd September 2008Bellbrook Valley Trout Fishery Report w/e 23rd September 2008 Good sport continued this week with best result a 3-fish limit taken by Phil Matthews of London. Phil used a Cat's Whisker to good effect to bank 3 fish for 15lb 14oz, the best fish scaling 6lb 10oz. Best fish of the week was a 6lb 12oz rainbow taken by Angus Willis from Tiverton who landed another to complete his limit of 10lb 4oz; both fish coming from Iron Mill on a Bloodworm pattern. Dave Eglon from Crewkerne, Somerset, used a Black & Green Montana to take fish to 6lb 1oz for a 15lb 11oz 3-fish total. Ron Hawkins of Willand dropped in to take a 3-fish bag of 12lb 1oz. Phil Matthews visiting from London took a 2-fish Specimen limit of 10lb 1oz on Damsel Nymph, best fish weighing in at 5lb 6oz. Gundon Ball from Kingsteignton and David Crossley from North Petherton also took 2-fish Specimen bags totalling 8lb 10oz and 8lb 8oz respectively.
Fish in the Specimen Lakes proved to be most cooperative this week but Mr C Hold of Barnstaple managed a 5-fish limit from the Normal Lakes for a 7lb 10oz total. His fine and delicate approach using a Black & Silver Buzzer proved to be the winning tactic. Those anglers just pulling Damsels and other larger patterns struggled to make their mark with the Normals, but both Brian Langabeer of Tiverton and C Dixon of Barnstaple also showed it could be done using small Montanas.
