BVTF Fishing Report w/e 16th August 2008Bellbrook Valley Trout Fishery Report w/e 16th August 2008 All the lakes have been fishing well despite the poor conditions suffered some days. Iron Mill Lake remained uncoloured throughout and was always a reliable bet even in the worst conditions. Good fish continue showing and evergreen Ashley Cridge of Minehead caught best fish this week; an 8lb 8oz rainbow. Ashley added two more to make a 15lb 8oz total, all taken on Black Nomad. Ron Hawkins from Willand wasn't far behind with a 7pounder plus a brace more for a 14lb 10oz 3-fish total. Darren Bucknell from Bampton caught a solitary fish at 6lb 12oz but didn't manage to land any more. Shaun Payne, also of Bampton, caught a 6lb 9oz fish plus a brace from the Normal Lakes for 6lbs. Jim Frost of Taunton, fishing a 2-fish Specimen ticket, used a Montana 3 - 9 ft down to take a brace of 11lb 13oz, best fish scaling 6lb 5oz. Dan Payne of Bampton caught a 6lb fish from the Specimens and added one from the Normal Lakes at 2lb 8oz. Brian Langarber of Tiverton, "Merv" from Cardiff and Richard Vooght of Thorverton all used Bloodworm take 3 fish apiece. On the Normal lake Tickets, Woodbury angler Peter Hancock paid 2 visits to take 4 fish at 2lb 12oz each, one at 2lb 8oz plus a 2 pounder. J Walker of Uffculme on a 3 fish normal caught fish of 3lb, 2lb 8oz and 1lb 5oz whilst Sue Hayes from the Vale of Glamorgan on a 3 fish normal caught a fish of 3lb and 2 @ 2lb 8oz using Green Montana. The weather forecast for the week ahead and into Easter looks reasonable with only a few showers likley at the time of writing. Insect activity is good on all the lakes and the fish are expected to respond accordingly. Black is best if the water is coloured, the alternative being Bloodworm fished very slow and steady, possibly under the "bung", at around the 3 foot mark. |
